Mini laptop went crazy

Postby Leven2e » Fri Jan 23, 2009 1:59 pm

2 days ago my netbook went crazy. The search pane (Quick find) would come up by itself.
Types random characters, especially "]",but a lot of them with some "t"-s,etc. Also has a tendency to scroll and just doesn't wanna do what I want.It started with the "caret browsing" coming up every time I started Bon Echo.I could not go to the "about:config" in the browser to turn it of for once and all,so I downloaded the latest recovery files and MBR,hoping that a full reformat would solve the problem. No,it hasnt. It's still taking the piss . But without the always caret browsing multiple windows. What could it cause the 1T behaving like this? Is there anything else I should try?Even now, when the 1T+ has been left alone for like 10 minutes,it's still doing its funny things. Now,when I typing from an XP laptop,1T+ typing gibberish like "]tTT" into the bottom of the page into the find search pane which has been opened up by itself, sometime it makes it highlighted in red;plus an other "TTTTTt*" in the browser's address field. Also, every now and them it deletes it and replace something else similar nonsense.Mostly T,t,Y, and ].
Or can it be a problem with the touchpad, somehow? I am disappointed and have no clue how I could fix it. If you have any suggestion/advice,please let me know. Thank you.

You don't have external keyboards or a mouse connected on USB?
(If so I assume that you've already tested unplugging those)

Can you open it up and disconnect the touchpad and keyboard?

Try disconnecting/reconnecting both first, then booting it and see if it helps.

If not, disconnect first the touchpad and boot, and if that doesn't help, reconnect it, then test with the keyboard disconnected.

Also, check both for debris, stickiness and such...

Hi,thanx for your help!
I have checked both for debris, stickiness and such.I don't use external mouse nor keyboard.I am afraid to open it up because it would mean me losing the warranty. Also,I am not pretty confident opening it up,I don't know how easy it is to approach.I tried hovering with a mini USB hoover though :-)
Do you hink I should use some damp cloth around the keys ? It may make it worse.Disconnect the touchpad? Is it that easy anyway?

A damp cloth won't do much use. It won't get anywhere near where it's needed anyway.

I don't think it's too difficult to dismantle it to disconnect the keyboard.
(I think someone posted a link to a guide to dismantle it somewhere else in the forum)

Have you checked with your supplier if they have any recommendations?

yes, they offered a replacement..I tried shaking it to see if it gets worse :-)
Also hardcore-hovered it.The keyboard an every possible wholes and connections.I threatened it badly.I stroked it too.I gave it another chance to get better until Sunday evening.
