Software updates.

Postby Trygve » Sun Jul 20, 2008 12:29 pm

http://bestlinkeshop.com/files/Application/

Latest version is marked 0701.img and is 116MB.

There's also a user manual, but the site doesn't show file dates, unfortunately.

I'll add a new post with a list of updates and bugfixes after I'we tested it.
(I'll also add strikeouts and comments in my 'Review' topic where relevant)

OUCH!

I copied off all my wordProcessing documents and set to it...

I press [F3] to get ito the Recovery function. The program seems to find the .img on my USB-stick, and I'm presented with these choices...
Format partition before Recovery ,press[Enter]

To recover just by covering, without formatting partition, Press[s]

Back,Press[b]

Feeling brave I pressed [Ennter] to do the full reformat instead of just 'covering'(I assume they mean 'overwrite')...

.fdisk: cannot open /dev/ssfdca
exit-1: not found
exit-1: not found

Recovery Fail Press [ENTER] to continue:Ca't mount the system disk

Not fun...
At least it failed before it could destroy anything...

Same here. And no reply from Wayne at Bestlink yet. I think it´s about a week since I sent a request for new install procedure.

What does the bootup screen say on your machine?

On mine it says
Alpha-400 T70B
(I think. doesn't have it nearby just now)

This is very annoying since the updated manual seems to indicate it now supports WPA encryption on Wireless networks. (I use WPA at home and refuse to downgrade to WEP-insecurity)

Which addresses have you tried emailing to?

I've tried these myself:
wayne_at_hkbestlink.com
sales_at_bestlinkeshop.com

Edit: Also found sales_at_hkbestlink.com which I will email today, and bestlink9_at_htomail.com which seems to be their MSN addy, which I've just added, and will try to contact them on. (the address is offline at the moment. Maybe because it's past 8pm there now... )

Some guys have done the job for us :)

Use google translate or similar. I have root access, and online updates work!

And here is how to make your outside wifi dongle a inside one:

The image that can be downloaded from the Dutch site is for the SkyTone machine, but as they're identical, that doesn't matter much.
(The fix does NOT work with the 116MB .IMG-file from bestlinkeshop.com )
Visually, using the SkyTone image results in a few icons chaning names, from 'XIP Word' to Sky Word' and such.

The only updated function I have found in the new version, so far, is that it now seems to support WPA-encrypted wireless networks. (I have temporarily mislaid my network adapter, so can't test it, yet... )
I may be mistaken, but it looks like there may be more free space, too.

There's a few packages and even a Kernel Update(from 2.4 to 2.6) here:
http://www.cnmlifestyle.com/

I haven't tried the Kernel Update(or any of the other programs there, yet, so install on your own risk...)

They even have printing support!
