Canon Wordtank MD-8000

My first impression when I took it out of the box?
Is there a serial adapter stuck on the side?

The second was:
Why is there a small screwdriver in the box?

[Out of the box][Battery compartment]

4 x 1.5V AAA
1 x 3V CR2032
Production year: 0000OS: - Undefined -
Type: PDARAM: 32KBDisplay: Internal LCD
What's this then? On the box it says 'Multilingual Intelligent Dictionary'. I guess that's just as descriptive as anything else. Needless to say, but I was VERY disappointed to find that the ungainly lump at the side was NOT a detachable serial interface, but the battery compartment. DESIGN! Need I say it again? There was NO REASON for that lump of plastic. If they added just a little bit more thickness, then they would be able to fit the batteries inside it. There's also a few other points to notice... This machine was made in 1991. The manual states that it has 256Kbit memory. 256Kbit is 32KB. Why write it that way? Is it because 32KB sounded like too little back then?
